I have a special love for editing pictures in color and black and white. Each look has its unique pros, and it’s personal richness. Sometimes, I go through phases when it has to be all color, and let the color shine gloriously. Then, I remember the quiet beauty of black and white.

I think as mothers we do an extraordinary amount of work that goes unseen. Daily mundane duties that tend to the souls around us. We go to bed exhausted on most days, and wake up to another day of learning, growing, struggling and loving.

Last year, I discovered a new passion; writing. I had a small blank journal in my purse. One day when I was relishing alone time at the library, I pulled out that journal and began to write. I wrote my rambling thoughts about creativity, plants, the world and such, and I fell in love with writing.

During the last hour before sundown, I’m usually scrambling to finishes up chores with the kids; washing the dinner dishes, pickup up, and bathing the babies.

After much begging and pleading, I took my two oldest boys to see the new Avengers Endgame movie. I’m not super hyped on the Marvel movies. Don’t get me wrong. They’re super fun, but I can wait for them to get on VUDU to watch on my couch. My boys, on the otherhand, would not have that, and so I took them last week with not much excitement to see it. I was wrong.

I had the blessing to ride down with sweet Morgan and her family to Nelson Ghost Town for her photo session. I loved it, because we had time to just chat and learn about each other during the hour long ride down. I learned that Morgan is a tender, beautiful young woman. Quiet and kind.

“When we cultivate a mood of calm repose in our homes, we are scooping out a space of reflection and wonder, for contemplation and reverie. Our children are exposed to incessant commotion in the world that exists beyond our walls. Let home be the place where they can find the peace and quiet to make sense of it all.”

Kids are wonderful little people to photograph. They have their unique quirks, big emotions, and endless supply of energy. It’s very simple to take a quick portrait shot of children, having them smile at the camera, and call it a day. Yet, I like to go beyond that. I simply do one basic thing; I talk to them. I talk before I start firing away. I try to see what their interests are, and I try my best to be genuinely interested. Nothing makes a little one happier than realizing that someone is listening to them, and showing an interest in their little joys.

I went to Deer Springs Park with my sweet fellow mama friend and her kids. The spring weather was beautiful amidst the crazy winds that come with it. That day, we were blessed with a gentle breeze. I noticed the trees there, and how much they had grown since I first came to this park years ago. They were begging to be climbed.

When it comes to doing senior photo sessions in the desert, I don’t have too many options for locations that are budget friendly. I’m always trying to be creative and look for spots in local parks that would be appealing, and I sure love any spots that give a unique desert lushness. Lushness, ha! Like that word would be associated with the desert, but if I look hard enough, I can find pretty spots.

See this glorious yellow bush of wonder? It’s a desert delight called Lady Banks Rose. I have a slight love/hate relationship with it. I hate that it only blooms like this once a year in the springtime, for about a month. Then it goes back to being a green vine/bush for the rest of the year. At first, I thought “What a joke! Why can’t it look that way longer than just a short, ridiculous month??”

Three things about me:
Wind. I love the wind. I live in a desert valley, and experience wind throughout the year. Not the horrendous strong winds that we get, but the soft windy days that make the trees come alive.

The more mobile my daughter gets, the more she is on a warpath to destroy, leaving a trail of items all over the home. My bottom dresser drawers are constantly being emptied onto the floor. Sometimes, I just can’t get to all of the messes, as someone always needs something from Mom. That saying of cleaning a home with kids is like shoveling snow while it’s snowing…so very true!

I have something wonderful to share with you today. When I’m not taking pictures, I love to play piano and compose songs. Granted, I haven’t composed any new songs in a long time due to the busyness of mothering, but I was blessed last December to compose a song. It’s a song that was inspired by the suicide epidemic that is plaguing our world today. So much sadness in precious souls ending their lives.

I set a goal for this year to begin blogging consistently again. I just began this goal yesterday, so hooray for progress! Blogging on my photography website has been daunting for me in the past. I used to think that I could only blog when I had a photo session to share, and I needed to have the family’s life story to share with the post. No quite so. I’m thankful for the education I have discovered recently on the importance of blogging.
